I'm 22 years old.

What year were you born?

٢٠٠٢. انا اتولدت في سنة ٢٠٠٢

2002, I was born in 2002.

اتولدت فين واتربيت فين؟

أنا من مكان في مصر اسمه الاسكندرية وانا كنت طول عمري هنا

I'm from a part of Egypt which is the governorate of Alexandria and I've been living here up until now.

اتولدت أصم في الأصل ولا بقيت أصم بعدين؟

Were you born deaf originally or did you later become deaf later in life?

اتولدت أصم أصلا الحمدالله

I was born deaf originally, thank God [alhamdullilah].

فاتولدت أصلا...

So I was born originally-

وأمي وأبويا صم

My mother and father, they're deaf.

أبويا كان مولود أصم أصلا عادي يعني

My father was also born deaf originally like normal.

وأخويا الكبير بيسمع

And I have a hearing brother he's the older one and I'm the younger one.

أنا اتولدت أصم يعني ربنا خلاني أصم وطول عمري كدا

I was born Deaf, God gave me my Deafness.

ودا عادي يعني دي خلقة ربنا وطبعا فيه اعاقات اخرى زي ان حد يكون مكفوف او الاعاقة الذهنية الخ وأنا عادي وكل حاجه فيا سليمة الحمدالله

I know that for God to give me Deafness from birth is normal. Of course there are other types of disabilities, like blindness, mental disability, etc. I'm healthy and normal and I thank God for that.

في بعض الناس الصم في عيلتك تاني ولا انت الوحيد؟

أنا وأمي وأبويا, احنى التلاتة صم انما الشخص الرابع في عيلتي دا أخويا وهو الوحيد اللي بيسمع

How did you learn to sign?

من أمي وأبويا وصحابي في جمعية الرابطة الأخوية في المنشية وقبل كدا في مدرسة الأمل وكمان في جعمية أصداء يعني كل التجارب دي خلتني أعرف الاشارة

From my parents, friends from the Deaf Fraternal Society in Mansheyya, before from school at Al-Amal, and also from the Asdaa' association -- all of these experiences gave me signing.

هل ذهبت إلى مدرسة للصم أو للسامعين؟

Did you go to a deaf school or a hearing school?

أنا روحت مدرسة حكومية اللي هي مدرسة الأمل في جيناكليس

I went to a Deaf public school, the Al-Amal school for the Deaf in Gianaclis.

Can you say whether you benefitted from your education, if you enjoyed it, or if you encountered difficulties?

من الأول روحت مدرسة حكومية

At first, I went to public school.

المدارس الخاصة غالية ولم تناسب ظروف عائلتي

Private school was expensive, I couldn't afford it.

فروحت مدرسة حكومية للصم اللي هو مدرسة الأمل للصم اللي ذكرتها سابقا

So I went to a Deaf public school, you know, the Al-Amal School for the Deaf, that's the one I went to.

التعليم الحكومي مكانش قد كدا فبعدين جيت هنا على جمعية أصداء للتعلم

The public education wasn't so great, so then I came here to the Asdaa' Association where they have educational programs.

واتعلمت حاجات جديدة وعرفت اسافر برا

I learned many new things and got to travel abroad.

طبعا غير مستقبلي وأخدت شغل دولي كدا بقيت مدرب من سنة ٢٠١٩ وبسافر ألمانيا

And of course it changed my future. I got a new kind of international job, since 2019 I've been a coach and gotten to travel abroad to Germany.

Public education needs to change. All the teachers need to learn sign language fluently so that they can teach Arabic properly, instead of just letting whatever slide. Because that's our right, the right of any Deaf person.

التعليم الحكومي لازم يتغير. كل المدرسين لازم يتعلموا لغة الإشارة بالطلاقة عشان يقدروا يعلّموا العربي بشكل مظبوط بدلا من كلام "اي حاجة" وعشان دا حقنا وحق أي شخص أصم.
